I am a board-certified primary care physician practicing internal medicine in Rochester, NY since 1998.
I grew up in White Plains, New York, and attended Brandeis University for my undergraduate education, graduating in 1987. I spent a few years living and working in the Boston area. I decided on a career in medicine after working on women’s health issues in a law office and two women’s health clinics. I moved to Rochester in 1991 to attend the University of Rochester School of Medicine & Dentistry and have lived here ever since. After graduating in 1995 I trained in the Primary Care/Internal Medicine Program at the University of Rochester. In 1998, upon completion of my residency, I joined the University Health Service at the University of Rochester, where I worked as a full-time staff physician for 10 years. I am a member of the clinical faculty of the University of Rochester School of Medicine, with teaching experience in the hospital and clinic settings with medical students and internal residents.
I have always been interested in complementary forms of health care along with my traditional medical training. I attended a year-long training program for physicians in Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture in San Francisco in 2000-01. In 2005 I completed the Clinical Training Program in Mind/Body Medicine at the Mind/Body Medicine Institute at Harvard Medical School.
From 2007-2008 I participated in a year-long intensive program for local physicians entitled Mindful Communication: Bringing Intention, Attention and Reflection to Clinical Practice, with the goals of improved communication between doctors and patients, increased professional satisfaction, and cultivation of open, non-judgmental awareness in daily life and in the clinic.
In 2008 I decided to make the leap and open my own medical practice in order to provide my patients the unique opportunity to obtain high-quality primary health care in a setting that supports the well-being of the whole person. I am excited to introduce the revolutionary concepts of the Ideal Medical Practice model to this new location and am committed to the rediscovery of the aspects of the doctor/patient relationship that often get lost in the current health care system. I intend to do this in a vital and sustainable practice, where I love to work, my patients feel comfortable, and where care is collaborative and supportive.
When not seeing patients, I love to knit, and I enjoy cooking, gardening, and walking in the city and in the countryside. My husband Stew left his position at Springwater Center after 28 years in order to help me with the practice. You may occasionally see him at the office. We both enjoy all kinds of movies and music and can usually be found at Bruce Springsteen concerts when he is in the area!
