My practice is one of an exciting community of practices that are striving to provide high-quality medical care in a vital and sustainable way. The Ideal Medical Practice model grew out of the work of Dr. Gordon Moore and others as an answer to the ailing American health care system that is frustrating to both physicians and patients. As it stands now, typical medical offices allow for very limited time with your doctor and often incur lots of time spent waiting, as doctors try to see many more patients a day to remain viable. Very few people, including physicians, are satisfied with this state of affairs. The IMP model of patient-centered, collaborative health care aims to eliminate barriers between patients and their physician. To accomplish this, I make use of electronic technology for medical records, communications, appointment scheduling and billing. I operate independently without any staff, which significantly reduces the cost of running the office, and I have a deliberately small practice size which allows me to spend more time with patients. I use a scheduling model known as “open access” which aims to provide same-day appointments for most patients. Some of the benefits of being a patient in this type of practice:
